The emergence of Belo Horizonte is closely linked to this square, which today is the scene of important cultural, artistic and social activities. The materials used in the construction of the mineiro capital and its first residents arrived via the railway line that ended at the train station.
The square has undergone renovations in the last few years that, added to popular initiatives, have seen the Praça da Estaçao become a corridor along which cultural spaces have popped up. Today, the area sees innumerous artistic and social manifestations, which occur not only inside but the cultural spaces, but also in the streets. The area was until recently marked by insecurity and thus abandoned at night and weekends. Nowadays this area is filled with people, exuding creativity and pulsating with art and culture.
